CBG is an abbreviation for cannabigerol, one of over 100 cannabinoids present in cannabis plants. CBG is often called “the mother of all cannabinoids” because it forms new cannabinoids as it matures. CBG begins as CBGA (cannabigerolic acid) in young hemp plants. CBGA converts into cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) as the plant grows. These two chemicals are then combined to produce CBD and THC. Any remaining CBGA is transformed to CBG as the plant matures.
Despite the fact that CBG was initially identified in 1964, the cannabinoid received little attention, prompting little research into the substance. Modern research is still in its early phases, but based on what we know so far, CBG may interact with the endocannabinoid system’s CB1 and CB2 receptors.
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is found in high concentrations in cannabis plants. CBD was originally identified in the 1930s but was mostly ignored until the 1970s, when scientists began researching it more in-depth. CBD, like CBG, binds to the CB1 and CB2 receptors found in the body’s central nervous system and immune system.
