FAQ's

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of hundreds of compounds naturally found in the hemp plant. It has been used for thousands of years in a medicinal capacity. CBD is a non-intoxicating component of hemp that has a wide range of beneficial properties. It does not produce a high, unlike THC. CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system to promote a sense of balance and wellness.

The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to hemp-derived oil with THC levels below 0.3%.

Cannabinoids are natural compounds found in the hemp plant that interact with different receptors in our bodies to produce a variety of wellness benefits. There are over 100 cannabinoids in the cannabis plant and each cannabinoid reacts differently with various receptors in the brain and body. This why each cannabinoid provides different physical and mental effects. The two most common and well-known cannabinoids are THC and CBD.

Terpenes are natural compounds responsible for the unique aromas and flavors of many plants. They are found in high concentrations in cannabis plants and give each strain of hemp its unique taste and smell profile. Terpenes are believed to have healing properties that impact the benefit of the plant on the body.

CBD works by interacting with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). Every person has an ECS, and this crucial lock and key system is responsible for regulating major physiological functions like mood, sleep, pain control, etc. When our bodies produce endocannabinoids, they attach to corresponding cannabinoid receptors to nudge all systems towards homeostasis (balance). CBD triggers the same reaction in the ECS, helping our bodies restore harmony & balance.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a molecular system in every person’s body that is responsible for regulating and balancing various processes, including immune response, communication between cells, appetite and metabolism, memory and more. Studies have shown that it is through this system of receptors and metabolic enzymes that cannabinoids interact with the human body and trigger beneficial effects. CBD is a cannabinoid from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure to the body’s natural endocannabinoids; therefore, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits.

No. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning is does not give any mind-altering effects. THC is the compound that gets users “high”.

You can think of hemp and marijuana as cousins. They are both part of the same Cannabis sativa L. plant family but have a different genetic profile. Hemp and marijuana vary in appearance, composition, application, cultivation needs and legality. Generally speaking, marijuana contains higher amounts of THC than CBD, while hemp is the opposite – the hemp plant contains high amounts of CBD and only trace amounts of THC. Industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and can be used to make a variety of products – everything from rope to hemp plastics to hempcrete.

While CBD and THC are both naturally-occurring compounds in cannabis plants, THC is psychoactive while CBD is non-psychoactive.

CBD does not have any long-term, adverse side effects. CBD can produce mild side effects like dry mouth, changes in appetite, fatigue and diarrhea. Be sure to discuss any concerns about side effects or potential drug interactions with your doctor.

It’s possible. We recommend talking with your doctor prior to taking CBD if you are taking other medications.

No, CBD is non-toxic in large doses and does not pose any risk of overdose.

While there is no federal regulation establishing an age requirement for taking CBD, our products are intended for adults who are 18 or older.

Full spectrum CBD products do contain a small amount of THC (0.3% or less). Most drug tests and drug screenings scan for the presence of THC or its metabolites. Consuming a full spectrum CBD product may result in THC being stored in your body for a period of time, which can then show up on a drug test. THC-free hemp products, made with broad spectrum CBD or CBD isolate, should not cause a positive result on a drug test; however, it is important to err on the side of caution. The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe makes no guarantee that users of CBD or hemp-based products will pass a drug test.

When it comes to CBD, personal preference is generally the best way to choose between topical CBD, oils, edibles and vapes/flower. Since every individual is different, what works for your coworker, friend or relative may not be the best choice for you. It may take experimenting with several types of CBD products to find the one(s) that work best for your body. CBD oils, gummies, water soluble CBD and other CBD edibles are made for oral consumption. If you have a hard time with the earthy taste of CBD oils - gummies, edibles and water soluble CBD (CBD that can be added to any beverage) are great alternatives. CBD oils are taken under the tongue; users should hold the oil for 30-60 seconds before swallowing. See each product’s label for specific use instructions.

Since dosage and frequency vary between individuals, we recommend starting out with the lowest serving size suggested for your CBD product and adjusting as necessary. CBD is non-toxic in large doses and doesn’t pose a risk of overdose or dependency, so you can experiment with dosage to find the amount that works best for you. Full-spectrum CBD products contain the comprehensive cannabinoid and terpene profile that’s meant to mimic the whole plant content of hemp. These products contain no more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. Broad-spectrum CBD products also contain the comprehensive cannabinoid and terpene profile but without THC. These products are ideal for individuals interested in the entourage effect but who do not want to ingest any THC. CBD isolate products contain 99+% pure CBD with no other cannabinoid or terpene content. They are often labeled as ‘THC-free’.

The entourage effect describes the synergistic effect that occurs when all the compounds of the cannabis plant work together in the body, making these compounds more effective together than when any of them are taken alone. This is why you may hear people say that full spectrum or broad spectrum products “work better” than CBD isolate products.

Hemp seed oil is extracted only from the seed of the cannabis plant and contains no CBD. CBD oil (also called full spectrum hemp extract) is an oil that contains CBD. CBD is extracted from the flowers, stalks and stem of the hemp plant and mixed with a base oil (often coconut or MCT) to create a CBD oil.

This refers to lab testing done on CBD products by an independent lab. There are no federal regulations that require this testing, but reputable companies have their products tested by third party labs to ensure a product’s safety and efficacy. All products carried by The Farmacy Botanical Shoppe are third party lab tested.

There is a picture of the lab results, or COA, on each individual product page. There is also a QR code on each product’s label that you can scan with your phone camera to view the COA. COAs for each strain of hemp flower are available on our Lab Results page.

Please speak to your healthcare provider before taking CBD if you are pregnant or nursing.

CBD usually has a shelf life of one to two years. This is often dependent on the other ingredients in the formula. CBD products may change color slightly as the product ages – this is natural and does not indicate an expired product.

For the best shelf life, keep your CBD oil in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. This will help to preserve the hemp extract for as long as possible. If stored properly, CBD oil can have a shelf life of up to two years.
